RETHINKING AGING WORKSHOPS

Change the way you think about aging; change the way you age

About This Program

Society’s misconceptions and stereotypes of growing old abound. Everywhere you look, the world is training your mind to see aging as a downward spiral of decline, dependency and decrepitude. A condescending attitude towards older adults reaffirms the negative beliefs about aging, implying your usefulness has come to an end; it is time to kick back and take it easy; it’s time to let younger, more capable people manage things (including your life).

Scientific research clearly shows that kicking back and taking it easy is the perfect recipe for physical and cognitive decline. Don’t do it!

If you need only one reason to put effort into your aging process, let it be to avoid the degradation and dehumanization of institutionalized aging. Fight tenaciously to maintain agency over your life rather than turning control over to others.
Building on the success of its Ontario province-wide workshop series, Rethinking Aging will be opening its virtual doors to Canadians across the country.

Join Healthy Aging Specialist, Jill Simpson, and your fellow Canadians from coast to coast for a timely and important examination of your personal beliefs, society’s beliefs, and the scientific reality of growing old. Learn how your expectations about how you will age can affect your brain and body down to the cellular level.

During this fascinating 10-week journey, you will write a personal guidebook to the rest of your life and mark out the route to a healthier, more joyous and fulfilling aging journey. It will forever change your perceptions of growing old.

What participants say about Jill’s Rethinking Aging Workshop Series…

I am a healthcare professional related to older adults. I learned A
LOT!! The course provided inspiration and practical tools to literally
rethink aging and to design a journey that continues to be enjoyable. Jill
(our presenter) …knows her stuff and presents evidence and inspiration
to put the evidence into practice. Jill is the magic that makes this
course the gold that it is.

Ever since I met you, I knew I was with the person I was meant to meet. You have no idea of the fabulous, profound effect you have had on my life. I have always loved trees, and now I am a tree that is growing.
Linda B. Kitchener

I learned that I have been thinking negatively, and it has been affecting my mind and body. I learned I CAN change this. The sessions were excellent, laid out well, and flowed well. The instructor was very knowledgeable and a good leader. She even got the quiet ones to talk and state their views, opinions, and comments.

Mark B. Kitchener

This should be shared with all seniors’ organizations across Ontario and Canada. I’ve learned that there is more to aging than going to a care home or senior’s residence.

These unique classes teach seniors new and exciting ways to maintain physical and cognitive well-being as they age. When seniors age better, all of society feels the positive impact, including our healthcare system.
Catherine F.- Kitchener

I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and was blessed by the resources.
Your presentation style, making the sessions interactive and pressure-free
made it a pleasure to be a part of. Thank you for your innovation
and insight into the fruitfulness of the senior years. Continue to be an
inspiration to the aging population.

Extremely worthwhile course, and it was an excellent time for me to take
it. Heaven sent. I felt encouraged, optimistic about life, happy to see
that the steps I had taken on my own were on the right path, but just not
as broad as they could have been. I was surprised at some of my
negative thoughts that were hidden until this course forced me to reveal
them.
